3D Printing

01/01/17

A personal project of mine is 3D printing. I love working with 3D printers, whether it is designing research components, modifying 3D printers and selling Fidget spinners, it is a hobby I cannot get enough of.

In 2017 I broke my jaw playing field hockey. During my time recovering I bought a XYZ Printing Da Vinci 1.0 A and was immediately hooked. With this printer I started learning the basics of additive manufacturing, computer aided design and slicing software. With this 3D printer I started making and selling fidget spinners. This endeavor was very successful and sealed my love for 3D printing.

After returning back from MIT, I purchased a Creality Ender 3 S1 in order to continue working with 3D printers.

Since then I have dedicated a whole section of my apartment to 3D printing with a laptop purely in control of downloading, organizing and slicing files to print.  From April 2023, I swapped over from using Thingiverse.com as my main website for acquiring models to print and since then I have been using Printables.com

Several mods have been made to my Ender 3 S1. The main mods that affect day to day operation are mounts for an aquarium LED light and a new bracket for the filament runout sensor. Both of which I designed myself A major change that I made was to add a 3D printed component that allows me to use the printer as a pen plotter. I designed this mod to assemble with the bolts already used on the printer head.
