Hydrogen Hypercars & Recycled Carbon Fiber

I am proud to share my work for as part of Cavendish Motorsports. A Group Design Project at Cranfield University, focused on the design of a Hydrogen Combustion powered WEC Endurance Race car.

My role was designing the Carbon Fiber Monocoque Chassis with the target of being more environmentally friendly and using Recycled Carbon Fiber material. Whilst designing according to the 2025 FIA WEC regulations and working closely with the vehicle dynamics and aerodynamics department. A material model was made using research published on the mechanical properties of Carbon Fiber recycled through pyrolysis alongside an epoxy resin.

Using Ansys Workbench, a torsional stiffness simulation was set up and a 32kNm/Degree Torsional stiffness was achieved. Additionally, a Side impact panel was investigated using LS-Dyna explicit simulations, in order to protect vital systems such as the fuel storage.

I have learned a lot through this experience and am grateful for all the members in my team, winning us the Most Credible Engineering solution award by Racecar Engineering.
